Both Sean and Monica live in separate homes. Despite the challenges, they always find ways to see and spend time with one another further developing their bond. This all changed when the pandemic began in California and the Governor ordered a shelter in place in March 2020, making it impossible for the couple to see each other.

Monica has been hesitant to attend a day program due to her past experiences. Though she wanted to visit her boyfriend Sean, she knows how important it is to keep each other safe. She decided to join Apollo in April to find comfort in knowing that Sean will be there. Since then, Monica restored her confidence in building new friendships, reconnecting with old friends from church, making everyone laugh with her jokes (especially “Uncle Eric”), and most importantly, keeping herself busy and healthy.

Sean is simply happy knowing that he can see Monica, his brother Jose, and all of his friends from program even just virtually for now.

Monica and Sean’s relationship continues to flourish. Their story shows that love knows no boundaries, and that there is a way to endure even in the harshest of times.

OUR APOLLO SUPERSTARS BEING ASSISTED BY THEIR LOVING PARENTS/SUPPORTIVE STAFF

It is so humbling to see how our individuals thrived and easily adapted to this new normal due to the tireless support from their family or dedicated support staff. The bond that we see every day, parents/DSP’s who put their own life on pause to assist in the daily activities of our individuals, inspires us to be the best in what we do. They are the reason we have been awarded the 2020 Service Provider of the Year because of the love and compassion they have shown to our individuals during this difficult time that has also spread throughout our organization. We are truly grateful for all that you do.
